The research by the Oxford team examined possible approaches that could be adopted in the design, development and delivery of a scalable version of a simulation model. The model need to be delivered by CD or via a simple browser interface over the Web. In order to create the solution, an oriented approach was adopted. This allows maximum flexibility in the continuing development of the system whilst creating the most lifelike scenarios and characterisations within the system. An object oriented approach involves the creation of each element of the simulation as a separate object within the program. This approach allows one to more readily model individual actions since one is able to model individual actors and/or events. Research indicated that a turn-based approach is the best paradigm for this application. The turn-based approach allows the user time to employ reference materials while also accommodating the processing cycles required to model the complex interactions required by the system architecture.
